Abigail Garcia is a freshman at Texas State University in San Marcos, Tx, and is pursuing a career in mariachi to hopefully become a mariachi director in the future. She takes inspiration from many idols in the mariachi world, but mostly from the world renowned Maestro Jose Hernandez who is the musical director of the famous Mariachi Sol de Mexico and who she also had the privilege of meeting. Abigail began her training as a violinist at 11 years old in a beginner orchestra. At the age of 15 she was accepted into the studio of the prestigious violinist, Dr. Diana Seitz. Abby studied under the direction of Dr. Seitz for two years. She began her mariachi career at the age of 14 after playing classical violin for two years. Abby continued mariachi throughout the next six years and continues to do so today. Through mariachi, she was given many opportunities such as studying under the direction of world renowned mariachis including but not limited to Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, Mariachi Sol de Mexico, and Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan. She has had the privilege of playing alongside mariachis such as Mariachi 7 Leguas, and Mariachi Mariposas. In addition to mariachi, Abby has studied extensively in the orchestral field. She has had the privilege of being the soloist for an orchestra and mariachi on demanding pieces such as “La Guacamaya“, Bach double violin concerto in D minor, Vivaldi’s “Summer” violin solo, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” fiddle solo, and Corelli Christmas concerto violin solo. Abby has also been a vocalist. in different mariachi’s and sang songs such as “El Hombre que yo Amo”, “El Son de mi Tierra”,“Un Puno de Tierra”, and “Si Nos Dejan,” and “El Pastor.”
