Abby learned so much from her orchestra and mariachi directors in high school; they made her realize what she wanted to pursue, but more importantly what she wanted to be for her future students. Both of her directors were not only teaching music, but teaching lessons to life. Her orchestra director had a philosophy which states “Orchestra is the rehearsal for life.” She would change this to “Music is the rehearsal for life.” Learning, practicing, and performing music requires so much concentration, dedication, and skill that it makes everyday life seem not so challenging. Finally, both of her directors didn’t just have music rooms to teach in, they fostered safe havens for the students. Abby wants to be able to provide a safe haven for her future students where they will feel comfortable to be their true selves.
